As part of our commitment to be a Net Zero Carbon company, we are continuing our move to more sustainable energy sources on our sites.  Apart from the purchase of hybrid fuelled plant and machinery, we are also making the following changes at Cognition:

  1. HVO fuel - We have completed a successful trial of HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil) based fuel (Green D+) at our Silvertown Tunnel site in Greenwich.  We found no issues or delays caused by equipment breakdown and the new fuel has proved to be fully interchangeable with conventional diesel.  This switch substantially reduces Cognition’s main source of carbon emissions.
  1. Solar powered electricity generators - We are about to start a trial of solar powered electricity generators on a number of sites.  They include a backup generator to ensure security of supply and are a great solution to further reduce fuel  consumption for welfare power generation.  Assuming the trial is successful, we will be looking to source these on a more regular basis from our current suppliers.

We will continue to find ways to improve our environmental and sustainability performance and maintain our net zero carbon status whilst aiming to reduce our carbon offsetting year on year.  If you have any suggestions as a client, partner, supplier or colleague to help us achieve this aim, please do get in touch with our Environmental and Sustainability Manager, Tomaz Vernik on tomaz.vernik@cognitionltd.com
