This site had been used as a garage with associated services from circa 1935. It had ceased to offer such services in recent years and had become dilapidated. Planning permission was obtained to convert use to residential offering affordable housing in the local community.
The site has a number of underground storage tanks (USTs) including petrol, paraffin oil and hydraulic oil. In 1974 a spillage of petrol from an insecure cap on a valve was recorded. The leak lasted six days before it was secured. The petrol station closed in the late 1980’s and the petroleum USTs were filled with RG22 foam in the early 1990’s. |
