Water treatment plant was installed to treat groundwater contaminated by a former pitch plant and fuel storage area at a site in Worksop. The plant comprising of an oil water separator, sand filter and granular activated carbon units is capable of treating up 15m3 of groundwater per hour. Despite having consent to discharge to an adjacent watercourse, treated groundwater was continuously re-circulated through a series of lagoons to help draw contaminated water through the ground to the plant. Significant improvement in groundwater quality was achieved within 2 weeks of installation of the plant and the remedial targets are likely to be far exceeded upon completion of the remediation.
