Remediation Case Studies / Acton – Former Industrial and Chemical Storage Facility

Acton - Former industrial and chemical storage facilityDual Phase Extraction Technology was utilised to remediate two known hydrocarbon contamination hotspots within this former electrical engineering works. The site had been mainly Greenfield and low density residential until 1935 when industry was introduced and subsequently added to until 1950. The working site finally closed in 2003. Storage tanks, including converted air raid shelters had been used to store paint, cyanide, cutting oil, acid and light fuel oil. Contamination included significant free product hydrocarbon within the ground and upon the perched groundwater in these areas. After an overall works and extraction period of six months, significant reduction of the free product layer was achieved, all measurement criteria met and the process considered successful.
